BAKERY: (Update:
August 25th, 2011)
On the 18th of August our new bakery opened
and is selling bread to the local villagers. The
building and its New oven are one of a kind in
the area. The bakery is run by a cooperative of
people from La Petit Savanne and the orphanage.
The surrounding villages are quite please in having
the new Bakery as they will not require to walk
3 kilometers to buy bread.
We have spent over $8000 US dollars, including
the oven and its supply of baking items for start-up
of producing bread and other items.
Our villagers (La petit Savanne ) now have a
ready supply of bread at a great price. The monies
that the Bakery will generate will be put in other
projects. The Bakery will also generate jobs for
our villagers.
I spoke with Pierre and Pastor Enoch throughout
the building of the bakery. Both have been very
helpful in the building phase of the bakery.
You can VIEW PHOTOS
on the completion of the bakery HERE.
Thanks to all who donated their money and time
on this project. Your generosity enabled us to
build a much needed bakery that was destroyed
by the earthquake.

Future Projects
Our education project is ongoing and we are working
very closely with the French school division in
Saskatchewan. John and I have attended many meetings
and this project will take some time to fulfill,
as bringing students from Haiti is a slow process.
We will keep you up to dated on this project.
We also have a ‘shoe box’ project
that we have started with the kids of the village
and orphanage. This project will identify many
young kids through photo and name; which will
be given to Regina kids so they can send them
special items which will be contained in the shoe
box. Items like crayons, pens and pencils, photos,
small toys, soap, tooth brush etc….. Pastor
Enoch and Pierre will start taking individual
photos of the kids, so we can possibly have the
shoe box sent around Christmas holidays of this
year.
We will need some volunteers to work on this
project.
Western Canada Relief Fund
for Haiti Group LATEST PROJECTS: (Update:
November 2010)
September 2010
In September Roland had an opportunity to meet
with the Governor General, and special envoy to
Haiti for the United Nations, Michael Jean at
government house in Regina. The GG was very interested
in the work we are doing in Haiti. We are looking
forward to working with Mme. Jean in her new role
as a special Envoy to Haiti.
.
Current Projects
Our projects include the following:
- The building of a new larger washroom facility
for La Petite Savanne village. This project
was completed by local villagers.
- The repairs of earthquake damaged houses
both in Mount-Rouge and La petite Savanne. This
project is ongoing and local villagers from
both of our villages are repairing walls and
roof to keep the rain out.
- The (ongoing) repairs of the main road leading
up to La Petite Savanne village, which is subject
to yearly flooding. This road is essential for
large vehicles to bring supplies to La Petite
Savanne.
WCRFH has been financing the cost for these
house repairs and paying local village workers
to rebuild the road to La Petite Savanne.
On all of our projects we have local villagers
complete the work on our projects.
All of the funds
have been directed to the buying of building materials
and paying locals on these projects.
WCRFH has been in Contact with Pastor
Enoch who is the person in charge of the
Good Samaritan orphanage. This orphanage
is very close to La Petite
Savanne and many of the children are from
the surrounding villages, including La Petite
Savanne. We have previously discussed the possibility
of re-building the local Bakery, which was
knocked down by the earthquake. This bakery was
operated by the Orphanage.
We were also a median for our communities in
terms of bringing them temporary housing from
larger organizations in time for the rains.
A cost assessment is currently being completed
by our leader ( Pierre) from La petite Savanne,
to determine the amount required to rebuild the
bakery. This will require new funds from future
fund raising events.
